In short
Vidhi Shah, a counselling psychologist based in Mumbai, holds online counselling sessions in Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati as well as English. A session can stay in one language or move between them. Sessions are one-to-one, 60 minutes long, held over secure video or voice, and start from ₹499. To book in your language, say so in the message field when you book.
One practitioner, four languages
Looking for a therapist who speaks Marathi or Gujarati usually means filtering a directory and then starting over with each name: checking their approach, their fees, whether they have time. Here there is one person to assess. Every session, in whichever language, is with Vidhi Shah herself — the same practitioner and the same approach whether you speak English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati.
Why this matters is covered properly in therapy in Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi. The short version: feelings are usually learned in the language of home, and describing them in a second language can produce something accurate but flattened. Taking away the translation step tends to get people to the real subject sooner.
What a session in your language is like
It is an ordinary counselling session in every respect except the language. You set the pace and the subject. Some people stay in one language from start to finish; many move between two, and that is followed rather than corrected.
You do not need to speak formally or “properly”. The version of Marathi, Gujarati or Hindi you use at home — English words included — is the right one to bring.
Sessions are 60 minutes, held over a secure video link or by voice, and never recorded. The first session is mostly about understanding what brought you here and what you would like to be different.
Couples and families who don't share a first language
Joint sessions are often where language matters most. Partners from different communities may each argue best in a different language. Parents may say the important things in Gujarati or Hindi while their children answer in English. A counsellor who works in only one of those languages ends up translating for one side, and the side being translated usually notices.
Joint sessions can move between languages so that each person can speak in the one they are most at ease in, as long as everyone shares at least one common language. See couples counselling and family therapy for how those sessions work.
What stays in English
To be clear about it before you book: the booking form, confirmation emails and the worksheets on the resources page are in English. Only the sessions themselves are held in the language you choose. If the form itself is a barrier, email hello@vidhishahcounselling.com and it can be arranged by reply.
Every service is available in these languages

Common questions
Will the whole session be in Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati?
If you want it to be, yes. Many people prefer to move between languages instead — setting out the situation in English and saying the part that matters in the language it happened in. Both work, and you can change your mind from one session to the next.
My Marathi or Gujarati is not formal. Does that matter?
No. Speak the way you speak at home, including the mixed, half-English version most people actually use. Therapy is not an exam in the language; the point is to remove the effort of translating, not to add a new one.
Can couples or families who speak different languages have sessions together?
Yes, as long as everyone in the session shares at least one of English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi. A session can hold a partner who is most at ease in Gujarati alongside one who prefers English, or parents who speak Hindi at home alongside children who think in English.
How much does a session cost?
Sessions start from ₹499 for a 60-minute online session. The exact fee for what you are booking is confirmed with you before the session.
Are the booking form and emails in my language too?
No. The booking form, confirmations and emails are in English, as are the worksheets on the resources page. Only the sessions themselves are held in the language you choose. If that makes booking difficult, send a short email and it can be arranged by reply.
I live outside India. Can I book?
Yes. Sessions are online and scheduled in Indian Standard Time; your confirmation states the time clearly so you can convert it.
